Abstract:
Baptist churches have been forced by circumstances to adjust their way of worship
in a more Pentecostal style, which is considered by many Baptists as a deviation from the
established standards set by the founder of Baptist churches. This pentecostalisation of
Baptist worship has led to confusion among believers who do not adequately understand
the difference between Pentecostalism and the Baptist faith. This study therefore
examines this pentecostalisation phenomenon using the Ridgeways Baptist church in
Roysambu Constituency, Nairobi County, as a case. The study follows a quantitative
approach within the descriptive survey design. A sample was drawn from believers in the
Ridgeways Baptist church who are registered members, baptized and involved in different
church ministries. These were drawn using simple random sampling. The data collection
was done using a questionnaire, which was filled out by various respondents including
pastors, elders and evangelists among others. Data was analysed through content analysis
and descriptive statistics. The findings of this research proved that Baptist worship
components have been greatly pentecostalised.
